The Front Quarter Pull-up Horsehide by Charles F. Stead is made by selected European Full Grain horse hides tanned with Steads’ traditional garment tannage and finished with a blend of “classic pull-up” waxes. This produces a pure-aniline leather with a Unique Rich character.
Charles F. Stead is a traditional family business established in 1895, remained faithful to the artisanal skills, techniques and know-how that others have forgotten, taking the time to work the leathers in the traditional way. These skills continue to live on in harmony with modern production technologies. Quality leather can never be a commoditized product, with each hide having its own characteristics, and they treat it accordingly.

I’ve been desiring this jacket for so long. But shipping something to my country is pretty difficult due to taxing/custom issues. Also since I have a big body I had to get it done as made to measure. It is quite difficult to make it accurate from online without a physical measuring. I’ve contacted to Marco. He helped me out with the entire process. He never bothered with my questions for weeks. I received a Varenne Horsehide jacket, size XL, as a present.
The jacket itself is a brilliant and unique mix of quality of material, style and Italian craftsmanship of the highest level. But it´s only half of the Shangri-La Heritage story. After wearing the jacket just a couple of times it proved to be just a bit small for me. Since we don´t have a retailer for Shangri-La Heritage in Sweden, I sent an email to the Shangri-La Heritage office in Bergamo and asked if it was possible to exchange my jacket for a size 2XL. Honestly, I didn´t have high hopes… BUT it didn´t take long before Marco personally contacted me and told me that it was no problem whatsoever, and he asked me if I could wait a couple of weeks because he had to make a new jacket from scratch not having one readily available. All free of charge. For one customer. For me. He really walked the extra mile just for me which I found incredible! I mean, which company owner in the world would do this?! What an experience!
And here is my point: The overall quality of the product together with the owners dedication and attention to the customer, their love and passion put into the work makes the whole Shangria-La Heritage spirit genuine and captivating. I can easily see myself with these guys driving through the Passo di Stelvio (which I actually did once with my then girlfriend, now wife)!

A stunning example of masterful craftsmanship. I have had the jacket for a couple of weeks now before writing my review, and my conclusion is that this truly is the jacket I have been searching for years.
The style, cut, details, the antique look and most of all the leather quality are what sold me on this jacket. I finally have a jacket to use all-year around in the city, workplace, countryside and when riding my old motorcycles.

I’ve just received this jacket today and that beast is a beauty !!! I have been looking for an alternative to an Aero Highwayman for a long time (delivery conditions and times too vague due to Brexit). Until I came across Shangri-La. Marco advised me on the size and colouring of the leather with great friendliness and courtesy. The first time I tried on a jacket from Shangri-La I noticed something exceptional about it, a mixture of high quality leather and lining, details like the copper zippers of the small door at the end of the sleeve, and a great fit. I decided to look further online and I eventually found out the Varenne, however there was a thing missing that I was looking for: a shearling collar.
