The Front Quarter Pull-up Horsehide by Charles F. Stead is made by selected European Full Grain horse hides tanned with Steads’ traditional garment tannage and finished with a blend of “classic pull-up” waxes. This produces a pure-aniline leather with a Unique Rich character.
Charles F. Stead is a traditional family business established in 1895, remained faithful to the artisanal skills, techniques and know-how that others have forgotten, taking the time to work the leathers in the traditional way. These skills continue to live on in harmony with modern production technologies. Quality leather can never be a commoditized product, with each hide having its own characteristics, and they treat it accordingly.
The metallic zippers are made of antique brass with engraved markings.

I received a Varenne Horsehide jacket, size XL, as a present.
The jacket itself is a brilliant and unique mix of quality of material, style and Italian craftsmanship of the highest level. But it´s only half of the Shangri-La Heritage story. After wearing the jacket just a couple of times it proved to be just a bit small for me. Since we don´t have a retailer for Shangri-La Heritage in Sweden, I sent an email to the Shangri-La Heritage office in Bergamo and asked if it was possible to exchange my jacket for a size 2XL. Honestly, I didn´t have high hopes… BUT it didn´t take long before Marco personally contacted me and told me that it was no problem whatsoever, and he asked me if I could wait a couple of weeks because he had to make a new jacket from scratch not having one readily available. All free of charge. For one customer. For me. He really walked the extra mile just for me which I found incredible! I mean, which company owner in the world would do this?! What an experience!
And here is my point: The overall quality of the product together with the owners dedication and attention to the customer, their love and passion put into the work makes the whole Shangria-La Heritage spirit genuine and captivating. I can easily see myself with these guys driving through the Passo di Stelvio (which I actually did once with my then girlfriend, now wife)!
If there is a Shangri-La Heritage Tribe out there, then count me in! And I hope that one day I can meet you guys in person!

A stunning example of masterful craftsmanship. I have had the jacket for a couple of weeks now before writing my review, and my conclusion is that this truly is the jacket I have been searching for years.
The style, cut, details, the antique look and most of all the leather quality are what sold me on this jacket. I finally have a jacket to use all-year around in the city, workplace, countryside and when riding my old motorcycles.
I am 185 cm and 90 kg with longer arms and broader shoulders, and the size XL fits me perfectly with room for a sweater underneath. My request for a sown wind flap behind the zipper was beautifully created.

I have seen this jacket in a shop and felt immediately that that is something I want. Unfortunately, the available size of XL was small so I ordered a 2XL.
Just received it a couple of days ago. I was afraid how it will fit but it is simple perfect all over at the shoulders, arms and waist.

I’ve just received this jacket today and that beast is a beauty !!! I’m a tall guy and i’m always a bit worried when i order a jacket at that price, i’ve followed the measurement guide and a size L was supposed to be the best for me, the model on pictures was also wearing a L but he was smaller than me and the fit was perfect for him, i was sweating hard, do i trust the sizing chart for a L or do i size up cause i’m taller than the model, i trusted the size chart and went for a L, and god i dont regret it, i’ve never received a jacket as well fitted as this one, 1 inch more for the sleeves and it was kind of a made to measure jacket for me, couldn’t be happier with that purchase, the leather is top notch, the smell, colors, details, it’s rigid and thick but still soft and comfortable, like the perfect balance for comfort, quality and aesthetic, 1st purchase for me with Shangri-la and i will definitely keep an eye for their new arrivals, Ciao raga ^^

I have been looking for an alternative to an Aero Highwayman for a long time (delivery conditions and times too vague due to Brexit). Until I came across Shangri-La. Marco advised me on the size and colouring of the leather with great friendliness and courtesy. As the jacket in L was unfortunately a bit too tight, I exchanged it for XL free of charge with individual adjustment of the sleeve lengths. Anything but a matter of course. And now for the jacket: sensational leather and workmanship. And the smell of the leather….. Couldn’t have made a better choice. The first time I tried on a jacket from Shangri-La I noticed something exceptional about it, a mixture of high quality leather and lining, details like the copper zippers of the small door at the end of the sleeve, and a great fit. I decided to look further online and I eventually found out the Varenne, however there was a thing missing that I was looking for: a shearling collar. I sent them an email and not a day after I received an answer from Marco, which effortlessly agreed to include the collar, gave advise on sizing and kept me posted on the state production process.
